Zamfir, The Cow....

I haven't seen one for a few years but, back in the 1970's and 80's, there were a TON of commercials on TV advertising "Zamfir and his Pan Flute". Some of his songs were ok, most were just not that appealing to me - I actually thought it was a joke when I first saw it....

There he was, every third TV break on Ted Turner's WTBS, wailing away on that stack of pipes. It was enough to drive a person nuts.

I guess we now know why Ted married Jane Fonda.....

Anyhow, A couple of weeks ago, we were in Trenton, Missouri for a local Fall celebration called "Missouri Day". On a side note - it's actually Missouri DayS, but the sign didn't have an "S" on the end.

I guess they figured that the sign was up on both days, so each one was a "Day".

Our MAIN objective was to buy a couple of those nice, big Turkey Drumsticks, but there was other food there, too - Funnel Cakes, Fried Snickers, Fried Twinkies, Philly Sandwiches, Nachos, and something called "Alligator on a Stick"....

Not SURE what THAT was, but wasn't going to try it - just in case it WAS Alligator....

While were were walking around enjoying the sights, smells, and sounds - I heard that old Pan Flute howling in the distance.

It kinda reminds me of one of those "Herb Shops" (no, the LEGAL kind....). You know, you walk in the door, everything smells like Herbal Tea, there is a bead curtain hanging on the office door, and instrumental music (it's ALWAYS instrumental...) from the 60's or 70's playing. For "added effect" the lady who owns the place comes out wearing a head band, tie dyed dress, and colored glasses.....

You know the place....

Mean while, back to Missouri Day...

I follow the sound - well, actually, we were headed in that direction, so I didn't REALLY "follow" it.

What do I find at the end? Not one, not two, but THREE booths selling Zamfir records! One even had Pan Flutes for sale!

Oddly enough, all three booths were run by people in tie dyed attire....

Needless to say - I moved on quickly, and no - I didn't buy anything....

Yesterday, Deb and I were out with the cows, goats and dogs. Nothing exciting, just a nice warm afternoon. Deb snapped a few photos of Yani finding (and playing with) a Crawdad, the fat goat, the fat calf, and Mable playing her cornstalk "flute" at the fence.

Cornstalk Flute

If she only had fingers....

I can hear the "howling" from here....

  1. I LIKED that music at Missouri Days...kinda would have liked to buy one of the flutes too! Now I wish I would have, so I could bug you with it, when I got annoyed with you!! *giggle*
