Deer Photos...
Here are a few photos from the past couple of days. We've got a lot of good meat in our freezer, several jars in the pantry, and more that we have either already eaten or have given to our neighbors. Not sure how many pounds we ended up with but we are getting a freezer full, anyway. We hope to get more deer while the season is on.
Digging into it:
Stuffed and Lazy LGD sleeping it off. She woke up when she heard the goats causing a ruckus because they saw me in the barn yard. She must still want scraps, she hasn't turned them down yet. She growls at the chickens and cats, but lets me pet her and take it away from her without getting "snippy" at me. She's a good dog.
The Chickens are having a grand old time. They can pick a carcass cleaner then anything else. They have three rib cages to work over - the 4th I gave to Yani - and other assorted scraps. I told them that it "tastes like chicken", but I don't think they believed me:
Part of what Deb has canned:
This is our new 21 cubic Foot Freezer:
The "Hangin' Tree"....This is what my neighbor and I made last Friday. It has worked EXCELLENTLY so far.
All lined up:
Looks like you are in pretty good shape for the
ReplyDeleteWinter already.
We like deer meat too. Rarely get any though.
I didn't think you was suppose to give chickens meat
ReplyDeleteChickens are actually"omnivores". They are scavengers at heart, ant thrive on meat and fat. Think suet.....
